2014 National CotY Award Winner, Residential Kitchen (under $40,000)

The homeowners wanted to convert their small kitchen into an inviting space where they could cook and entertain, which meant moving the sink and range and creating an island to serve as a prep area.

The space was enlarged by removing a partition that separating the kitchen from the playroom as well as a pantry closet. The window wall was reframed to accept shorter windows, and the kitchen was rewired from a panel in the garage. The concrete slab was cut through to move the sink drain and water lines-a feat that other contractors had said couldn’t be done.

The kitchen is now a perfect entertainment area where you can relax and enjoy a bottle of wine with friends without interfering with the cook. The island, topped in granite, serves as a prep area as well as provides an area for guests and family to sit and gather. Maple cabinets provide amble storage and allow space for an impressive wine rack display.  The window sills were fitted with matching granite to hold collectibles and the refrigerator was repositioned in its own cabinet to provide additional counter space.
