This grand 14-foot by 37-foot porch extends the footprint of the clients’ Colonial home and adds two main living areas: a sitting area and dining area. The focal point of the sitting area is a gas fireplace surrounded by Stone Harbor Thinstone veneer. The deck features Ipe mahogany wood decking. The roof is made of clear fir tongue-and-groove beadboard. Creating this space involved the removal of two existing decks and steps, a concrete retaining wall, bulkhead doors and the top two basement stairs. A 50-foot by 3-foot retaining wall was then built to level the back yard. Steps of bluestone now lead to the porch from the backyard, which can also be accessed from the kitchen, living room and side entry.
